What's Happening?

Caltrans will fully close the Vincent Thomas Bridge (State Route 47) in both directions on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. The closure is for a deck replacement expected to last 16 months, with reopening targeted for early March 2028. The bridge links San Pedro and Terminal Island at the Port of Los Angeles and carries about 53,000 vehicles a day. Traffic will be detoured via I-710, I-110, SR-103 and Harry Bridges Boulevard. Both ports remain fully operational.

Impact on Your Shipments

The closure coincides with record volumes and tight trucking capacity at the port complex. At least one Southern California drayage provider has announced a congestion surcharge, and Falcon’s U.S. import team expects others to follow. Truckers estimate 45 to 60 extra minutes per trip to Terminal Island terminals at peak hours. Plan for higher local trucking costs, longer turn times, greater demurrage and detention exposure, and less predictable delivery appointments.

Falcon’s Approach

We can review your upcoming Los Angeles and Long Beach arrivals with our California trucking partners, identify containers moving through Terminal Island, and plan pickups outside peak hours and within free time. We will share applicable congestion surcharges as soon as they are confirmed, so you can adjust budgets and delivery windows early.
