As the United States prepares to observe Independence Day on July 4, logistics networks across the country will be impacted by holiday-related restrictions on oversize and overweight (OSOW) freight. This period is one of the busiest travel times of the year in the U.S., and most states implement temporary regulations to manage roadway congestion and safety.
If your business has shipments moving through the U.S. during this time, please note that many U.S. states will restrict the movement of over-dimensional cargo starting as early as Thursday, July 3, with some restrictions lasting through the weekend. Most state permitting offices will also be closed on July 4, and some for additional days.
Key Impacts for Shippers:
Oversize/overweight freight movement is restricted July 3–6 in most areas.
Permit offices will be closed, potentially delaying route approvals.
Expect delays and build in additional transit time where needed.
Even if you’re shipping from Canada or anywhere outside the U.S., if your freight touches any U.S. roadways during this window, it may be affected.
We’ve compiled a full state-by-state breakdown of travel restrictions and permit office closures. If you have shipments scheduled during this period, we recommend reaching out as soon as possible so we can help ensure your cargo moves without delay.
Let’s work together to keep things on track during the holiday weekend!
