What’s happening
Ocean carriers are adjusting routes as increasing draft restrictions at the Panama Canal limit vessel capacity. At the same time, congestion at typhoon-affected ports in China is adding pressure to global ocean schedules. Some vessels serving the U.S. East Coast are already experiencing delays of several weeks, while additional cargo is being redirected through West Coast ports.
The situation is developing ahead of Taiwan’s Moon Festival and China’s Golden Week, adding further pressure to fall shipping capacity.
