The Story BEHINDTHE MOVE
Heartland Petrochemical Complex LP, a division of Inter Pipeline, is North America’s only single-site PDH/PP facility, producing 525,000 tonnes of polypropylene annually. With operations rooted in innovation and sustainability, Heartland sought a logistics partner that could match their level of precision and accountability. Falcon International was selected to manage the transport of ten over-dimensional units from China to Canada—executing every phase with excellence, from planning to final delivery.
The Challenges Faced& Overcame
Our Team Overcame:
- Lashing for CN Rail Approval
Transporting such a concentrated, heavy unit required precision and compliance. CN Rail’s strict requirements meant that every angle, strap, and point of contact had to be engineered for safety. Falcon partnered with engineering specialists to design a custom lashing plan, securing formal approval.
- Navigating Spring Thaw Restrictions
With thaw-softened roads posing a risk to heavy-haul equipment, Falcon timed operations meticulously and selected reinforced routes and gear to minimize environmental impact while maintaining delivery deadlines.
how falconResponded
From day one, our team worked across continents, aligning schedules between the vessel operator, Halifax port authorities, CN Rail, and Alberta-based heavy movers. In Halifax, the press was discharged and smoothly transferred to a specialized railcar. In Edmonton, it was transloaded onto a heavy-duty truck and carefully transported to its final site.
The final placement was executed using a Jack & Slide system, allowing for precise positioning in tight quarters—no cranes required, zero margin for error.
