Super Typhoon Ragasa has disrupted operations at key ports in southern China, prompting concerns over delays and regional congestion, industry sources said.
On September 22, authorities closed several major terminals in Guangdong province, including Shenzhen, Nansha, Shekou, Chiwan, Mawan, and Dachan Bay, as the storm approached. Around 15 vessels remained anchored or underway in the Shenzhen area as of September 24.
“The wind and rain are expected to peak from the night of the 23rd through the 24th, posing a serious risk of disruption,” a logistics provider in China said.
Yantian and Shekou terminals are expected to resume operations around September 25, depending on weather conditions. Market participants are closely watching for ripple effects across Southeast Asian ports, where vessel bunching and delays could intensify existing congestion.
